Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was allegedly driving 156 miles per hour seconds before the deadly crash Tuesday, police wrote in the arrest report.
On Wednesday morning, Ruggs appeared in court with his two attorneys as he faces a charge of DUI resulting in death. He was sitting in a wheelchair and wearing a neck brace.
According to police, Ruggs was driving a Chevrolet Corvette heading north on Rainbow Boulevard when it crashed into a Toyota Rav4.
The Toyota caught fire, killing the woman and her dog inside. The LVMPD reported the victim was identified as Tina Tintor.
Kiara Kilgo-Washington was the passenger in Ruggs' vehicle and also suffered serious injuries.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police analyzed the airbag control module from Ruggs' Corvette and determined the car was moving at 156 mph 2.5 seconds before the crash, "prior to algorithm enabled." According to an arrest report, it was recorded at 127 mph "at time zero" around the moment of the crash.
Ruggs refused the standardized field sobriety tests, says the report. As a result, he was transported to UMC for treatment and blood draw. According to prosecutors, Ruggs had a blood-alcohol content of .161, which is twice the legal limit.
A handgun found on the driver's floorboard in the Corvette was also impounded.
Ruggs was granted bail of $150,000 with the conditions of high-level electronic monitoring and no driving.
