SCAM ALERT: Fort Pierce Police Warn Residents Of Phone Scam

The Fort Pierce Police Department is warning local residents about a phone scam that has been reported in the area.

According to reports, the scammers are using fake numbers that appear to be local in an attempt to get you to answer the phone.

If you answer the call, it starts with someone screaming in the background, while the caller tells you one of your family members is injured and needs immediate medical attention.

A couple of other variations of the phone scam include the caller pretending to be a loved one saying “I’ve been injured in a car crash” or that “I need bail money as soon as possible.”

According to police, anyone who receives a call should contact their family members to verify they are safe, and never send money or give the caller any personal information.
