Rays Fall To Yankees For Second Straight Night

The New York Yankees (33-13) shut out the Tampa Bay Rays (26-19) 2-0 on Friday night at Tropicana Field.

Jeffrey Springs (2-2, 1.62) set the tone for the Rays, going six innings in which he allowed only two earned runs on five hits while striking out six and walking none. Jalen Beeks and Matt Wisler pitched three shutout innings to complete a very good pitching night for the Rays.

Unfortunately, it was not enough for Tampa Bay, as Jameson Taillon (5-1, 2.49) was brilliant on the mound for New York. He pitched eight shutout innings in which he allowed just two hits while striking out five and walking none. The Yankees got two solo home runs in the fifth - from Gleyber Torres and Matt Carpenter - and that would be the only offense in this game.

The Rays will once again look to bounce back against New York when the two teams meet in game three on Saturday afternoon. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
