Kelly Clarkson Explains Why She's Wearing An Eye Patch On Her Talk Show

Kelly Clarkson is looking a little different on some episodes of her talk show.

After jumpstarting season 2 of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer, 38, explained to show guest Common why she was sporting an eyepatch on the Wednesday (September 23) installment. "I'm sorry, I look like a pirate," she joked. "I hurt my eye and I have to wear it. And, so, it’s ridiculous. You’re being interviewed by a pirate today. I think I’m just going to make it my thing. This is my whole next album cycle [style]."

In a separate interview with NBCLA, Clarkson went into detail, admitting that something got into her eye while filming The Voice. "Something got in there, maybe cut it, did something. It got infected. It looked like Hitch, you know that movie?" she admitted, in reference to Will Smith's 2005 film. "When it first happened, it was so puffy and I was like, 'What am I supposed to do?' I had to shoot The Voice, a full day for, I think it was Battle Realities, in a patch and I was wearing all black 'cause it was already the outfit that was chosen and I looked like an assassin."

"We did six shows total because we did two shows a day. Three days I had to wear a patch. Those are not consecutive, man," she continued. "I'm gonna randomly be wearing a patch, like on a random Tuesday and people are going to be like, ‘She needs to figure out her eye situation.'"

Clarkson’s injury comes after a turbulent summer, which saw her file for divorce from her longtime husband, Brandon Blackstock. Earlier in the week, the multi-talent admitted that she didn’t see the divorce coming. The pair share two children: River, 6, and Remington, 4.
