The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper' Named Most Popular British Album of All-Time

It's official: The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the most popular British album of all-time.

The Official Charts Company named the iconic 1967 record Britain's favorite based on album sales, downloads, and streams, the Associated Press reports. Adele's 21 and Oasis' (What's the Story) Morning Glory? came in second and third, respectively. Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon and Michael Jackson’s Thriller round out the top five.

“The ground-breaking 1967 LP strides home with 5.34 million combined sales at the top of the all-time Official Studio Albums Chart, which has been compiled by the Official Charts Company to mark today’s National Album Day celebrations,” the company said in a statement on Saturday (October 13).

Sgt. Pepper celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017 with a deluxe reissue. Last month, The Beatles announced a White Album re-release box set of remixed versions of the double-album's songs, along with 27 unheard early acoustic demos and 50 session takes, to celebrate its 50th anniversary this fall. The collection is slated for a November 9th release.

The Fab Four's 1970 documentary film Let It Be is also being considered for a re-edit with new, unreleased footage from the original. Paul McCartney recently discussed the possible rework, admitting his only objection is "I don't come off well."
