New Pearl Jam Album Is In "A Limbo State"

Pearl Jam's Next Album Is "in Limbo"

Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament says that while the band has new music that could wind up on a new album, it won't have time to record anything until the end of this summer at the earliest, and it's not rushing.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers released the protest song, "Can't Deny Me," about racial injustice, in March with the promise the song would be included on the band's next studio album. But a new album is far from imminent.

Ament indicated in a new radio interview that it'll probably be 2019 before fans get a new Pearl Jam album.

"We have a bunch of stuff that's sort of partly written," he said. "Unfortunately, we have rehearsals coming up for Europe and the shows this summer, so it's in a little bit of a limbo state right now. We still need to record it; we haven't really recorded anything. But [there are] a lot of ideas."

The bassist says the band is at a point where it doesn't want to put a "ton of pressure" on recording a new album. He says the band members want to "live with some of these ideas for a while and then maybe record them in a different way."

Pearl Jam is exploring new territory, he says, which should make for an interesting album when the time comes.

Ament just released his third solo album, Heaven/Hell, earlier this May

Pearl Jam, is set to being a European tour in June. The band will then embark on a run of dates at North American baseball stadiums

The band has pledged to raise $10 million this year for the fight against homelessness, including $1 million from two shows in their hometown of Seattle, WA. Fans can lend a hand by donating, volunteering or getting more information here.
