A Florida judge has thrown out the state's congressional district map, ruling that Republican Party consultants illegally helped design boundaries that were aimed at the GOP retaining power.
Though challenges to South Florida congressional districts were rejected, the Palm Beach Post reports two districts in Central Florida were cited as violating the state constitution's prohibition on drawing boundaries to help incumbents or either party.
The decision is the result of a lawsuit filed by several groups, but the impact is unknown.
Attorneys on both sides had earlier speculated that boundaries would not likely need to be rewritten before this year's elections.
The Legislature is expected to appeal.
